About

Tea Horse Studio is the studio of Cynthia Cusick, a fine artist and potter working in Irvine, Kentucky, in the rolling hills just southeast of Lexington and the heart of Bluegrass horse country. Originally from the New York City area, with a prior career in graphic design, Cynthia left Brooklyn in the late 1990s to settle on a farm in Estill County — a move that became the beginning of her life as a full-time maker.

She holds a BFA from Eastern Kentucky University with concentrations in ceramics and metalsmithing. Cynthia works primarily in white and dark stoneware, using both electric-fired and wood-fueled soda kilns, the latter producing the distinctive atmospheric flashing and unpredictable glaze effects that make each piece unique. Her functional work — mugs, tumblers, bowls — often features hand-drawn animal motifs, from horses and herons to capybaras, rendered with warmth and a quiet sense of humor.

Tea Horse Studio work is available at Damselfly Gallery in Midway, the Kentucky Artisan Center in Berea, at regional craft markets, and at teahorsestudio.com.
