Opal Chickadee is a Lexington, KY jewelry studio founded by Katie Wurts, who started making and selling handmade jewelry — then called "Katie's Kreations" — in the years just after high school. After a break for graduate school, she returned to making in 2018 under the new name: a combination of her mother's birthstone and her grandmother's favorite bird.

Katie works primarily in polymer clay and resin, making everything from minimalist studs to bold statement earrings. Her designs span seasonal themes, pop culture touchstones, and everyday wearables, and she welcomes custom orders for pieces tailored to specific requests.
