Cathie Brown is a Lexington-area fiber artist whose felted wool purses are one-of-a-kind wearable art born from a lifetime of knitting. Each bag is first hand-knitted or crocheted in wool yarn, then fulled in hot water to transform loose stitches into dense, richly textured fabric. Brown finishes every piece with fabric linings, unusual trims, and re-purposed notions and vintage jewelry — drawing color and form from the seasonal rhythms of the meadows and woods near her northern Madison County home.
